Gerald Lovell: In the Eye of the Beholder
May 13 through June 18, 2022
Thursday - Sunday from 12 PM - 6 PM

Through a series paintings inspired by his own photographic lens, this body of work explores themes of migration, memory and place. For Lovell, painting is an act of biography. Born in Chicago to Puerto Rican and Black parents, Lovell’s portraits refuse the notion that all Black figures put down on canvas are somehow political by imbuing his subjects with social agency and the power of self-determination.

This exhibition is presented in partnership Anthony Gallery as we highlight emerging and established contemporary artists.
