Our Communications team seeks a Communications Intern who is interested in learning about arts and culture communications, developing critical skills for non-profit marketing and refining . 

Rebuild Foundation’s Communications team identifies and amplifies meaningful, relevant, and impactful aspects of the work. The department oversees public relations, public affairs, marketing, social media, digital communications and, in some cases, support with event production for Rebuild’s robust arts and culture programming. The department is driven by a deep belief in the organization’s work, an unwavering commitment to supporting artists and a strong desire to amplify their forward-thinking approach for creative placemaking on the South Side of Chicago.

Through thoughtful content production, digital communications, media relations and message development, we expand access to our offerings and engage both philanthropic and public audiences around our work. The Communications & Marketing Manager will serve as the connective tissue between Rebuild Foundation’s wide-ranging work and the communities we serve.



Content Strategy & Creation (45%)

  • Create and implement social media content calendars to build brand awareness and amplify our projects and programs

  • Develop and create compelling website, newsletter and social media editorial content that is on-message, engaging and appropriate for each platform

  • Translate organizational communications goals and strategies into compelling content for a diverse range of audiences

  • Offer strategic counsel regarding new techniques and approaches to communications and identify opportunities to improve processes

  • Collaborate with Development department to create materials for fundraising campaigns

  • Attend and capture live events and programs in real time on our social media platforms

  • Liaise with a broad network of photographers and videographers in Chicago to capture our work for future content creation

Event Promotions & Digital Marketing (35%)

  • Support the Director of Communications, programming team and partner artists/organizations in developing event language and coordinating visual assets for a wide range of public programs

  • Collaborate with Director of Communications to develop targeted outreach strategies and stakeholder engagement around upcoming programs, partnerships, exhibitions and events

  • Contribute to audience development strategies across social media and marketing platforms

  • Support updating the website with programs, projects, updates and exhibitions

  • Research, develop, and maintain third party promotional partnerships and relationships

Press & Media Support (15%)

  • Proactively reach out to arts and culture media in tandem with the PR team to create awareness around exhibitions and programs.

  • Maintain and update an extensive internal press database and monitor/flag new press contacts for the team.

  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with local media in Chicago.

  • Develop and compile key communications materials such press releases, images and caption sheets, press kits, and coverage books.

  • Support with press event coordination and maintain a database of press coverage.

  • Report media coverage and press updates

Analytics & Reporting (5%)

  • Develop meaningful analytics and report on press coverage, social media metrics and performance data for Rebuild’s digital platforms

  • Analyze data and metrics to provide informed suggestions for future digital strategy



  • At least 2-3 years of experience working in arts and culture communications

(non-profit arts environment preferred but not required)

  • Experience creating digital and editorial content (social media, newsletter, etc.) in the arts/culture field

  • Experience with events promotion and amplification for a robust and diverse schedule of public programs

  • Able to work collaboratively, creatively and independently with colleagues, partners, artists and external stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and writing

  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented

  • Excellent planning and/or project management and organizational skills

  • Ability to synthesize materials and communicate information effectively across platforms

  • Ability to be self-directed and take initiative

  • Understanding of social media best practices and proficiency with Instagram,

Twitter, Facebook and Eventbrite as tools for brand and event awareness
(experience with TikTok, LinkedIn, Youtube and Mailchimp a plus)

  • Digital and social media advertising experience is a plus.

  • Graphic design and video editing experience is a plus.
